Training Course in Rheumatology

Background and facilities available
It was established in 1977 and is presently headed by Dr. Lata S. Bichile. Rheumatology OPDs and review clinics are conducted twice a week and there are facilities for indoor admissions also. An Immunology laboratory with facilities for conducting tests like A.N.A., Anti ds DNA, A.N.C.A., A.C.L.A., Estimation of C3, C4 and Synovial fluid analysis is available.

Course Details -
The objectives are to obtain skills in patient management in Rheumatology, to recognise early the complications of the disease and manage them, to acquire knowledge about rational therapeutics and to obtain knowledge about rehabilitation of these patients

The candidates will attend Rheumatology OPD twice a week and learn skills of joint examination, clinical evaluation and diagnostic work-up of Rheumatology cases and take rounds of Indoor patients and learn procedures like Joint aspiration, Intra-articular injections, Synovial biopsy and Muscle biopsy etc. They will be attending occupational and physiotherapy units to learn rehabilitation techniques as well.

For Post MD/ Post DNB/ Post MS (Ortho) candidates - 3 Months For Post M.B., B.S. - One year
Eligibility -
M.D. (Medicine)/ DNB (Medicine)/ M.S. (Orthopaedics) with interest in Rheumatology/ M.B., B.S. with interest in Rheumatology

MD/DNB/MS candidate - Rs.10, 000/

MBBS candidate- Rs.20, 000/

Evaluation - By practical examination and viva voce

Course on HIV AIDS -

Organised and conducted by - HIV Services of Department of Medicine


Background and facilities available
HIV services were started in the department of medicine in January 2000. There is HIV clinic once a week every Tuesday and indoor admissions of HIV-AIDS patients are made. The department also runs a Post-exposure Prophylaxis Programme (PEP). There is collaboration with the departments of Microbiology, Dermatology, Chest Medicine, Blood Bank and Gynaecology & Obstetrics.

Course Details -
The objectives are to enable the participants to diagnose, manage and prevent opportunistic infections in patients with HIV/AIDS and to make them aware of legal, ethical, social and financial aspects of HIV/AIDS. There will be interactive sessions and clinics to teach history taking, examination and diagnosis. There will be training in counselling methods and also in biostatistics for record-keeping and research.
