Course on Peritoneal Dialysis for Nephrologists -

Background and facilities available
The department was established in January 1963 and is presently headed by Dr. Alan Fernandes Almeida. It has an artificial kidney department with facilities for peritoneal dialysis and haemodialysis. Dr. M.D.Motashaw Renal Transplant Unit and Aditya Renal Research Laboratory have been doing excellent work since inception.

Course Details -
To sensitise and train nephrologists in the art and science of peritoneal dialysis.

There will be interactive sessions and practical demonstrations of anatomy and physiology of peritoneum, mechanics and techniques of peritoneal dialysis(PD), complications of PD, nutrition on PD and the role of peritoneal dialysis team.

Course on Haemodialysis for Technicians -

Course Details -
The objective of the course is to train technicians in hemodialysis. There will be lectures on principles of dialysis, vascular access and its care, haemodialysis membrane, reprocessing of haemodialyser, monitoring of patients and maintenance of records, high-flux/high efficiency dialysis, adequacy of dialysis, universal precautions, complications of haemodialysis and their management. There will also be practical demonstrations for 4 to 6 hours every day in the Artificial Kidney Department (AKD).

DM Nephrology, DNB Nephrology Laboratory technician with a B.Sc. degree with or without DMLT (Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology)

Course on Dialysis and Transplantation for Nurses -

Course Details -
The objective is to train nurses in the principles and practice of dialysis and to train them in pre-operative workup and post-operative care of transplant patients. There will be lecture and demonstration series on principles and practice of dialysis, pre-transplant workup of donor and recipient, post-transplant care, complications and management of transplant cases and nutritional and psychological aspects of renal transplantation.
