Courses Offered
The Department of Biochemistry offers the following courses :

to undergraduate science students.
6) Good Clinical Laboratory Practices course
(GCLP)
The
details are as follows :
1) DMLT - Total no. of seats - 12 The applications
are invited after the declaration of Mumbai University B.Sc. results. Students
offering Biochemistry, Chemistry, Microbiology, Zoology and Botany are eligible
to apply for this course. The applications are invited by Lokmanya Tilak Memorial
Municipal Medical College (LTMMC) and Sion Hospital, Mumbai. Interviews are generally
conducted after M. Sc.(by papers) and M. Sc.(by research) seats are filled up.
2) M. Sc. (By papers) in Biochemistry & M. Sc (By research) Eligibility
criterion for M. Sc. (By Papers) and M. Sc.(By Research) degree in Biochemistry
As per University of Mumbai ordinance 0.2441 & 0.2445 a candidate having minimum
3 units in chemistry with any combination of units in biological sciences is eligible
to apply for M. Sc. (By Papers) and M. Sc.(By research) degree in Biochemistry
respectively.

Sc (By research) : Seats - Subject to availability.
University seats are
filled by University of Mumbai. The forms are available with the University office,
fort campus. The ten College seats are filled by applications invited by Seth
G. S. Medical College, Parel, Mumbai for all the three Municipal Medical Colleges.
One application form is to be filled with preference to be given as M. Sc. (by
papers); M. Sc (by research) in Biochemistry as well as in Microbiology and Applied
Biology courses. The preference among the three municipal medical colleges has
also to be filled in by the applicants in this form. Applications are invited
after the declaration of B.Sc. results by University of Mumbai. The interviews
for M. Sc. (by research) are held after the third round for M. Sc.(by papers)
is completed by University of Mumbai.
3) Ph.D. seats: Subject to availability.
Eligibility criteria for Ph.D.(science) degree in Biochemistry:
Candidates
with M. Sc.(By papers) or M. Sc.(By Research) in Biochemistry are eligible to
apply for Ph.D. (Science) degree in Biochemistry.
Applications are invited
after M. Sc. results of the University of Mumbai are declared. The application
forms are available with Dean's office, Seth G. S. Medical College, Parel, Mumbai.
Interviews are conducted after displaying the merit list.
4) Summer Training
: Applications are made by F. Y., S. Y. or T.Y. students from Science faculty
of basic science Colleges to Department of Biochemistry. An amount of Rs.150/-
to be paid to Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai in the KEM Hospital. One
month's observership is available in the Central Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory
(CCBL) to undergraduate B.Sc. students.
5) "Good Clinical Laboratory Practices"
(GCLP) Course.
GCLP
is conducted by the Department of Biochemistry, Seth G. S. Medical College, in
October every year.
The objectives of the course is to make the participants
aware of :
