"Cultural and educational exchange is critical for the development of medicine in the 21st Century. The Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College (GSMC) in Mumbai and the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) in Worcester, realize that here we have an unprecedented opportunity to work together in the areas of medical science and education. Therefore, the UMMS and the GSMC are proposing an academic affiliation between the two colleges to foster exchange and collaboration of medical education. As opportunities and mutual interests widen this program will benefit each institution to develop an increased level of cultural understanding, mutual respect for differences in educational philosophy and approach to health care."

This student exchange program will be a great step in advancing medical education. It will give students at UMMS and GSMC, hands on experience and a first hand understanding of international health, social and clinical problems and issues. We do not know of any other university in the USA or India that has such a structured program. Students from both institutions participating in this program will be eligible for scholarship support. Dedicated tax exempt funds to support this scholarship have been established at UMMS and GSMC. We sincerely hope that alumni from both the institutions will provide financial support this program and help us take medical education to a still higher level of excellence at GSMC and UMMS.
